€12,000 collected validates four quarters in a liberal profession and only one in sales: three quarters apart for the same year of work.

The cap of four quarters a year covers all your schemes together: a salary that already validates four leaves nothing for the micro to add, and a pension you already receive cannot be increased.
Information verified on October 1, 2026. Indicative calculator with no legal force. The figures it applies are taken from official sources and dated: only your tax notice and the tax authorities are binding.

Converted back into income, those contributions amount to 29.9% of turnover in sales and 66.5% in liberal professions. On €12,000 collected, that is €3,589 of credited income on one side and €7,977 on the other.
One quarter is validated per band of credited income equal to 150 hours of the minimum hourly wage on 1 January, that is 150 × €12.02 = €1,803 for 2026. That income is rebuilt from your contributions: the share that goes to the basic pension, 43.45% of your overall rate in trade and services, 46.40% in liberal professions, divided by 17.87%, the rate of that contribution. This is the method Service-Public gives. The rise to €12.31 on 1 June does not affect the current year's quarters.
At €1,802 of credited income, the quarter is not validated. There is no half quarter and no favourable rounding, and the calculation is based on contributions actually paid: a return filed but unpaid validates nothing at all.
It is the only fund for which URSSAF still publishes a table, and it is expressed in turnover rather than income: €2,792 for one quarter, €11,168 for four. These amounts apply to it alone, and transposing them to a tradesman or a shopkeeper gives a wrong answer.
| Activity | Share that counts | Income needed | Turnover |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sale of goods | 29.9% | €7,212 | €24,115 |
| Commercial services (BIC) | 51.5% | €7,212 | €13,992 |
| Unregulated liberal profession (BNC) | 66.5% | €7,212 | €10,850 |
| Regulated liberal profession (Cipav) | own table | Not applicable | €11,168 |
The income needed is the same for everyone, four times €1,803. It is the share of turnover that counts towards the pension that opens the gap: a seller must collect more than twice as much as a liberal professional for exactly the same rights. Four quarters is the annual maximum, whatever the turnover.
Nadia sells sports goods online, Thomas does consulting. Both collect €12,000 in their first year.
Nadia: €12,000 collected in sales gives €3,589 of credited income, that is one quarter validated.
Thomas: €12,000 collected in a liberal profession gives €7,977 of credited income, that is four quarters.
To validate her four quarters, Nadia would need to collect €24,115, more than twice what Thomas does.
The gap is three quarters, and it comes back every year. Over ten years at the same level, that makes thirty quarters: seven and a half years of contributions Nadia will be missing when she claims her pension.
Four is the annual maximum. Beyond it, extra turnover validates no further quarter, it only raises the income credited to your account.
Check your career statement every year. Corrections are far easier in the year that follows.
ACRE changes nothing here. Your rights are calculated as if you had paid contributions without it.
The counter closes on 31 December. Money collected in January counts for the following year, not the one that falls short.
Contributions must be paid, not merely declared. An overdue instalment plan can cancel quarters you believed secured.
In sales, reaching four quarters requires far more turnover than in services. Bear it in mind when you choose your activity.
Buying back quarters remains possible later, but it costs several thousand euros per quarter.
In 2026, a micro-entrepreneur validates a pension quarter with €1,803 of credited income, that is 150 hours of the minimum hourly wage on 1 January. In turnover terms that is €2,713 in a liberal profession, €3,498 in commercial services and €6,029 in sales of goods.
You can never validate more than four pension quarters in a year: that is the annual maximum, whatever the turnover. Beyond it, contributions keep raising the income credited to your account, which affects the pension amount but no longer the insurance duration.
A quarter declared but unpaid does not count towards your pension: validation is based on contributions actually paid. An up-to-date return with a late payment validates nothing until the payment is made. Many people only find out when their career statement arrives.
The Cipav amounts only apply to its members, that is regulated liberal professions. URSSAF no longer publishes a table for tradespeople, shopkeepers and unregulated liberal professions, who come under the 150-hours rule.
