Who's behind Believemy?

A very small team! I founded Believemy and run it day to day. This year, Hana joined me to answer our communities on social media, under Believemy's videos as well as Kanami's.

Founder of Believemy

I created Believemy for people who are going solo (or seriously thinking about it). In practice, I write the website's code, film the course videos and answer your messages.

I also launched Reps, our bite-sized lessons you can do on the go, and Kanami, an iPhone app for learning kana, the two Japanese alphabets. And on YouTube, the channel has around 150,000 subscribers!

The rest of the time, I build the tools I need instead of paying for yet another subscription, watch far too many films and follow One Piece chapter by chapter.

Hana Mori

Community manager for Believemy and Kanami

Hana reads every comment, even on last year's videos, and drafts our replies. Under Believemy's videos, she talks to freelancers like friends who are just starting out: practical advice, and nothing to sell.

Under Kanami's, she has a soft spot for people who mix up two kana. She always finds a kind way to point out the trap, often with a comparison that makes you smile. And before she states anything, she checks it and gives her source.

Her guilty pleasures? Salmon onigiri and 80s city pop. She also refuses to talk about One Piece with anyone who hasn't made it past Enies Lobby (we tried).
